New to Netflix: The After Party

If you're familiar with the song, you're familiar with the artist KYLE who plays the lead in Netflix's new film, The After Party.
The teen comedy follows an aspiring rap artist, Owen, and his best friend/manager Jeff as they embark on the path of becoming the next. big. thing. Easier said than done right?
With Owen on a path to greatness with support from Wiz Khalifa (who by the way, not only makes an appearance, but gets barfed on), what could possibly go wrong? When he's on stage dropping a few bars, he projectile vomits all over Wiz, the crowd and on himself before having a seizure. The video makes it's way to the internet and soon, he's famous for all the wrong reasons. He inevitably inherits the name Seizure Boy and all hope is lost for his career. Or is it?
If you're a fan of rap and hip hop music, this is definitely one that needs to be added to your list. Admittedly, it does drag a little in the sense that Owen pines embarrassingly over Jeff's older sister and it gets ridiculously repetitive. However, if you can bite through that, the film has some very good elements to it in the shape of famous names.
WIz Khalifa isn't the only famous face to make an appearance. French Montana is dancing away on stage singing Unforgettable, Teyana Taylor plays a self made manager/stripper, DJ Khaled is chilling at the after party and Desiigner is chilling in the hot tub.
Other famous faces include: Blair Underwood (who plays Owen's dad), Jadakiss, Dinah Jane, DMX and Tee Grizzley.
The nostalgia with all the throwback artists is one of the things that caught my attention. Not to mention the fact that even with all these great names in the film, it did pretty well to NOT be cheesy. To be honest, it did well in portraying how hard it is to get into the music industry these days.
And it also pinpointed on the belief to never give up on your dreams. Whether it's in the shape of the girl you've been chasing for years, or for the rap career you've been working so hard for. Not to mention, the film is absolutely hilarious. Jeff (played by Harrison Holzer), literally cracks these one liners that leave you in hysterics. What's a girl have to do to have a friend like Jeff?
All opinions aside, the one that really matters is this one. The After Party has a pretty killer soundtrack which is definitely worth listening to. Just click on the album artwork above to give it a listen!
